     World War I was a terrible ordeal for soldiers and civilians alike. Go to to the Internet and examine some photographs that offer a closer look at what life was like for those who experienced the war firsthand.

  • Scroll down and click on The Trenches at Messines.
  • Click on Photos: The Ypres Salient, 1917.
  • Examine several of the photographs (click on the photos to enlarge them) and answer the following questions.
